Day 11 Two Weeks of Romance

It's the last day of Two Weeks of Romance. Hard to believe. I do hope you have enjoyed it and that maybe you have found a new author to read. I've enjoyed bringing a little light reading your way!

Let's not dilly dally any longer. The final author is RB AUSTIN.

Here is RB Austin and her book, Fallen Redemption. She will be giving away an Amazon gift card.

BLURB-
Killing Fallen to save mankind is Cade’s redemption for murder and only one human—mouthwatering and absolutely forbidden—stands in his way.
Cade committed himself to saving lives before he learned the full consequences of his life-altering decision. It wasn’t until he was tending his sick wife that he learned the enormity of what he’d done and he was unable to save her from the monster he had become. Consumed with guilt and praying for absolution, he threw himself into killing every Fallen he could find to save the humans he’d sworn to protect. But then Emma, deliciously mortal and completely forbidden, swept into his world, stirring an overpowering desire. Now he’s not only fighting soulless creatures, but also his inner cravings, trying to maintain his distance and continue on his path to forgiveness. He won’t lose control again and lose another love.

BIO-
RB Austin is a writer of paranormal romances and YA novels. She puts her slightly neurotic organizational skills to good use managing her time as a wife, mother, full time worker, author, and blogger. Her dream is to become a full time writer and move down south where she can sit on the sunniest beach with her laptop and a bag of chocolates, writing what the voices in her head tell her to. In her spare time she enjoys knitting. Her current project is a dog sweater because even if it turns out ugly and full of holes her cairn terrier can’t complain. RB is a member of Romance Writers of America and is currently working on the second novel in her Trihune series and a YA supernatural novel. Fallen Redemption is her debut novel.

Day 14 of Two Weeks of Romance

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you all are able to celebrate this romantic holiday with the one you love! Here at HEART OF ROMANCE, I try to bring romance to life as often as I can because I don't think we live these special moments just on February 14th. Every day there are special little things that we experience that are romantic.

As writers, we try to capture love and romance in our books. Today, I would like to introduce you to two authors who have done just that.

First, we have author, AMY JERECKI and her book, Captured by the Pirate Laird.

Captured Announcement:

Hello everyone! I’m super excited to announce the February 17th release of CAPTURED BY THE PIRATE LAIRD, a sinfully sexy Scottish historical romance. To celebrate, I’m giving away a signed copy of the print book.

BLURB-
Ripped from passion that will be forever seared into their souls, will Anne and Calum risk everything for love?

Wed by proxy to a baron old enough to be her grandfather, Lady Anne trudges up the gangway of a galleon that will deliver her into the arms of a tyrant. Crestfallen, she believes her disastrous life cannot get worse—until she awakes to the blasts of cannon fire.

Facing certain death, Anne trembles in her stateroom while swords clash and the chilling screams of battle rage on the deck above. When a rugged Highlander kicks in her door, she prays for a swift end.

But Laird Calum MacLeod has a reason for plundering the ship—and it’s not a stunning English lass. With no other choice, he takes Anne to his crumbling keep on the isle of Raasay and sends a letter of ransom to her husband. In time, Anne grows to understand MacLeod’s plight and finds it increasingly difficult to resist Calum’s unsettling charm—until the baron sends a reply agreeing to terms.

Next, I would like to introduce you to author, JEVENA WILLOW, and her book, Wise Indecision.

BLURB-
Becca Wellerby is to be the new sheriff of Sweet Willow, North Dakota. A town of only men, she didn’t come all this way just to be shunned by those who don’t want her as their boss. This is a new start to a new beginning. Back off...or get out of her way.

Fox Windlow figures a woman as sheriff will ruin everything, including the stubborn unwillingness of all the men in town. He can’t solve a murder, protect the innocent, and still keep hot looking Becca at bay without something going wrong...or losing his heart to her.

Excerpt-

“Good. Get back in your patrol car, and start leading the way.”

Becca stepped back, watching the man do as told. She held back her sly grin until he was well out of sight. She had no actual idea if Fox Windlow and Dan Laherty were partners. They were not exactly cut from the same cloth. Yet, by playing her cards right in what was known as a man’s game, she’d gotten herself an escort directly to her future.

With any luck, she would have the entire police force waiting there to help carry her personal belongings inside.

As she followed behind Officer Laherty’s marked squad car, she glanced in the squad’s rearview mirror and watched his mouth moving. He was talking into his radio, likely informing anyone else foolish enough hidden up ahead to back off before heads started to roll. She was in no mood to be harassed again.

Twenty minutes later, she carefully maneuvered her cumbersome van up a long, gravel driveway, then parked the vehicle behind the squad car. She shut down the engine in utter relief and took a few moments to gather her breath, and hopefully enough courage to actually get out of the vehicle. She did not feel ready to face this second challenge just yet.

She studied the dilapidated house in front of her surrounded by lots of nothing. Ill-manicured lawn, a carpet of decaying leaves at least three inches thick, burdock four feet high under the windowsills, and if she was not mistaken the chimney was a little off-kilter.

No wonder she’d missed the turnoff. She hadn’t been looking for a place in the middle of nowhere. Somehow, the mental image of home for the next twenty-plus years was slightly different than this. It would probably take her years to feel at home. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, again, and she felt the familiar pinch to the heart. She’d certainly never felt at home anywhere else.

“Captain?” Officer Windlow stood outside her vehicle, his hand held out to guide her down the one large metal step that it would take her to gain North Dakota ground under her feet. He must have driven straight here from pulling her over. He’d gained enough time while his cohort followed on the path of his sins.

She nodded her thanks to such a gallant show of chivalry, but ignored the kind gesture as best she could. After all, she was still spitting tacks over the tiny matter of being pulled over not once, but twice, by Sweet Willow’s finest. They’d earned her wrath. The very least she could do was reward them their prize.

She might have been ready for a new challenge, but she wasn’t ready for what a man could complicate, and Fox Windlow was just too much man and too much complication this late at night.

Becca shook off any ill feelings. She glanced at the monstrosity that loomed directly in front of her and sucked in a deep, agonizing breath. Well . . . this was it. This was her very last second chance. And she was surrounded by nothing but . . . incredibly gorgeous men? Yes. Fate sucks.

BIO-
Jevenna lives in Wisconsin in the same small town she was born in. Her debut novel, Wise Indecision, she has five novels with Soul Mate Publishing, each holding true to the characterizations and idiosyncrasies of small town folks. The smaller the town—the bigger the secrets.

Day 12 of Two Weeks of Romance

Good morning everyone! I am sorry that I missed days 10 and 11 and I will be posting them on the 15th,and 16th. My computer wouldn't work and I had to have it fixed. I promised you two weeks of romance and that is what you will get. Can't miss a day! Too many fabulous authors and books to skip any!

So, with out further adieu, I would like to introduce you to author, TARA KINGSTON and her Civil War Series.

Hello, Sarah,

It’s a pleasure to appear as your blog guest today. With Valentine’s Day on Friday, what a wonderful time to think about romance.

I’m excited about the recent release of the second book in my Civil War Secrets & Spies series, Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies. To celebrate, I’m giving an early Valentine’s Day present—one lucky commenter will have their choice of Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies and Secrets, Spies & Sweet Little Lies, the first book in the series.

Set during the months just before the conclusion of the Civil War, Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies revolves around a pair of Union petticoat spies operating out of Richmond and the men who love them. Led by a cagey matron who passes herself off as crazy as a bedbug, Amanda and Kate use their talents and their beauty to gather intelligence and outsmart the enemy. In Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies, no-nonsense agent Amanda recruits a dashing Union agent for a desperate mission—break a double agent out of a Confederate prison before he’s executed as a spy.

Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies was inspired by the stories of petticoat spies operating in both the North and the South during the Civil War. Spymaster Betsy Kincaid was modeled after Elizabeth Van Lew, a Richmond spinster commonly known as Crazy Bet. Daughter of a prominent businessman, she was an ardent abolitionist whose methods were ingenious and varied. She pried men with food, even charming her way past a Confederate prison commander. She funneled information into the prison in baskets equipped with false bottoms and even hollowed out eggs to ferry intelligence to Union generals. Crazy as a fox, she was a loyal and valued part of the Union war effort. Her use of food as an entry ticket to the prison inspired Crazy Betsy Kincaid’s strategy of baking her way into the prison.

Another petticoat spy who worked for the Union in the Confederate South was Pauline Cushman. Born in New Orleans, she moved to Michigan as a child, then took off for New York at eighteen to pursue a career on the stage. She traveled the country in road shows and seized an opportunity to spy on the Confederate troops while she was performing in Kentucky near the start of the war. Through a series of deceptions, she spent time following the Confederate Army, gleaning information from soldiers and serving as a Union Messenger. At one point, she escaped a death sentence for spying when Union Forces invaded the Tennessee town where she was being held. After the war, she wrote a book about her adventures and toured the country with tales of her exploits. When Miss Cushman died in 1893, her gravestone bears an unusual designation: Union Spy.

Of course, the Confederacy employed petticoat spies as well. One of the best known was Rose Greenhow. A popular Washington, D.C. hostess, she flattered secrets out of the nation’s political and military elite. “Rebel Rose” quickly proved her mettle as a spy, utilizing her charm and ingenious methods to ferry information to Confederate generals. Arrest and imprisonment did not curtail her activities, and she became a propaganda tool for the South until her tragic death off the North Carolina coast on her return from a trip to Europe to garner support for the Confederate cause from dignitaries including Queen Victoria. Mrs. Greenhow was buried with full military honors in Wilmington, North Carolina.

These brave women used their talents and their cunning to become some of the most effective spies this nation has ever known. I find their stories and those of other petticoat spies to be fascinating and tremendous inspiration for historical romance.

I’d love to know your thoughts…leave a comment for a chance to win a Kindle copy of either Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies or Secrets, Spies & Sweet Little Lies. Please check back to see if you’re the winner.

Now, here’s a peek at Pistols, Parasols & Passionate Little Lies

Passion flares when an alluring but no-nonsense petticoat spy recruits a daring Union agent for a desperate mission.

Like any good secret agent, Amanda Emerson knows how to get what she wants—in this case, a man with guts and a gun—a man heroic enough to break a notorious double agent out of a Confederate prison. But first, she’ll have to save her hero’s own neck.

Caught with Rebel plans and set for a hanging, Union spy Steve Dunham’s luck has run out—until a cunning beauty shows up at the jail and engineers his escape. Of course, she’s there for a reason besides preventing him from dangling at the end of a noose—he’s the key to her daring scheme.

Steve may be trading one execution for another, but the tempting—and off limits—operative draws him into the perilous mission. Falling for Amanda is a complication he can’t afford, but Steve’s never been one to play it safe. The spoils of victory will be Amanda’s surrender. And the terms of surrender promise to be sultry and sweet.

Blurb
She’s leery of overprotective men—he’s sworn to protect and serve.

When Katie Sheridan’s best friend is blackmailed over an affair with a yoga instructor, Katie stuffs herself into workout togs to help identify suspects. Instead of getting fit, she learns yoga can be a killer when the instructor winds up dead. Worse, Katie is a suspect, and finds herself tangling with the sexy, commanding cop investigating the case.

Detective Dirk Johnson knows getting involved with a material witness—especially one as reckless as Katie—means trouble, but his heart and protective instincts aren’t logical. More than once, she rescues herself just before he arrives to save the day. Dirk’s not sure he can keep up with her, but he’ll go down trying.

Blackmail, murder, and adultery teach Katie and Dirk that love obeys its own laws. With passion as the final reward, they find fighting temptation is highly overrated.

Excerpt

I watched him inhale, like he held in a rant. Shame on me, but pissing off the man held a certain appeal.

He inhaled through his nose, his gaze lifted for divine inspiration, or perhaps patience. “Break-ins are common these days, so maybe you should use the lock.”

“How do you know I don't?”

“The lock didn't tumble before you opened your door.”

“Oh.” It's hard to be sarcastic to a guy whose job is to “protect and serve.” Speaking of serve, those lips could offer… no, I wouldn’t go there.

“So, Detective Johnson, what does bring you by?”

“I have a few more questions. Mind if I come in?”

My brain stopped at the word come. Silly, but have I mentioned it's been awhile since I’ve dated?

He grabbed my arm. “Ms. Sheridan? Katie?”

The sizzle of his touch jolted me back to life. “Um, sure. Sorry, I haven't cleaned yet today.” Or last week, but who's keeping count? And why apologize?

I closed the woman's magazine I'd left open to an article on Giving Good Head and shoved it under a pile of papers, hoping Detective Johnson hadn't noticed my reading preference. His smirk suggested he probably had.

My attention shifted into hostess mode. I might be a slut wanna-be, but my Mama raised me right.

“Something to drink? I have iced tea, bottled water, Pepsi.” I stopped before adding “wine and beer.”

The smirk disappeared and his jaw tightened. “All I want are answers.”

If the son is not found before the old laird dies, Ranald will take over as laird—and marry Laird Macrory’s headstrong daughter.

Lady Caitriona sees no reason she cannot rule the clan in her brother’s stead, and is bitterly disappointed with the king’s decision to send a man to oversee the castle and people. Not only is Ranald Scott only distantly related to the Macrory clan, but he was her childhood nemesis. She has little trust or like for him.

Her disappointment turns to panic when the king’s plan is completely revealed and she realizes she must wed Ranald. Pirates, treachery, and a 4-year-old girl stand between her and Ranald’s chance at happiness. What will it take for them to learn to trust each other and find the love they both deserve?

Here is a brand new author, Dawn Hamilton, and I promise you that when you read her books, you won't be disappointed! I am a huge fan and can't wait to see where her career takes her!

Thanks, Sarah, for having me as a guest on your blog during Two Weeks of Romance.

I love holidays. Don’t you? The month of love is extra special. I decorate the windows with red heart clings. I keep red placemats on the dining room table and the table in the sunroom. Add a couple of red heart candles and red heart shaped glass pebbles to the flower vases. Oh, yeah, and we keep a few strings of white lights up for atmosphere. With the red poinsettias left over from Christmas, the house feels very romantic.

The perfect place to cuddle a Highlander.

How about you? Do you decorate your house for Valentine’s Day?

Blurb for Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon, Highland Gardens Book 2:

What happens when a twenty-first century business executive is expected to fulfill a prophecy given at the birth of a sixteenth-century seer? Of course, he must raise his sword in her defense.

Believing women only want him for his wealth, Finn MacIntyre doesn't trust any woman to love him. When, during Scottish Highland games, faerie magic sends him back in time to avenge the brutal abduction of his time-traveling cousin, he learns he's the subject of a fae prophecy.

With the help of fae allies, they must overcome the treachery set to destroy them to claim a love that transcends time.

And today we have Lane MacFarland and her books, HEATHER and CAMERON.

How will you celebrate Valentine's Day?

I've already attended a party in Scotland. After I published the first two books of my series, The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall, the MacDougall, Graham and Campbell clans came together in honor of St. Valentine’s Day. They graciously invited me to their celebration, and I’d like to share my visit to MacDougall Castle in Kilmarnock.

It was late at night when I arrived. Large torches blazed bright into the darkening sky. Solid battlements, secured behind grey stone, ran across the outer gates surrounding the fortress. Guards patrolled the ramparts, ready to drop the portcullis and defend the castle at a moment’s notice.

The carriage rattled across the wooden bridge, through a large worn gate and past guardhouses on either side. We pulled to a stop in the bailey before the stone steps leading to the keep. I tugged my wrap around my shoulders, climbed the steep stairs and knocked on the heavy oak door.

A gust of brisk air swirled in the front hall as Fergus greeted me. “Welcome to MacDougall Castle, Mistress McFarland.”

“Thank you, Fergus. It’s nice to be back.”

Laughter and children’s squeals of delight drifted from the great room. My pulse raced in nervous anticipation of being surrounded by the Scottish clans.

“Please come in, and I’ll show ye to the celebration.”

I stepped into the dimly-lit hall onto one of the thick burgundy rugs scattered about the cold stone floor. Fergus lifted the cloak from my back and escorted me down the corridor. More torches secured in brackets lined the damp passage, their flames flickering in a chilly draft.

Light from the great hall flooded the end of the passageway. A roar of mirth followed by loud guffaws greeted me as I followed Fergus into the great room.

Music filled the air. Jacob strummed a lute and Betsy played a harp. Cheers erupted as a group of dancers gathered on the floor. Cameron and Heather ran to join the revelers. Holding hands, they glided, sidestepping around a large circle. The women held the dancers’ hands on either side of them as the men and women twirled in time with the music. Children skipped around crowd, and the great hall resounded with merriment.

Fergus swept his arm in the direction of the revelers. “Make yerself comfortable by the fire. I’ll let Mistresses Cameron and Heather know ye’ve arrived.”

I scooted into one of the massive wooden chairs. Holding my hands out to the warmth radiating from the golden flames, I breathed in a comforting smell of peat.

Someone grasped my shoulder.

“Mistress McFarland?” Rena, the MacDougall cook, handed me a mug. Her snaggletooth smile radiated warmth. “Would ye care for mulled wine?”

“Yes, thank you,” I answered and took a sip. The warm spicy drink cut a soothing path to my stomach.

Loud cheers erupted and I glanced over my wine as Robert took Cameron’s hand and pulled her against his broad chest. She gazed into his eyes as he lowered his mouth and kissed her passionately while wrapping his arms around her and bending her backward.

The rowdy crowd clapped and shouted encouragement.

Robert straightened and the promises his smile bestowed on his wife would have any woman melting in his arms.

Poignant melodies hushed the revelers as Jonathan blew into his bagpipe. The man forced air into the sheepskin bags and squeezed them hard, causing wind to rush through the reed pipe.

Fergus whispered into Heather’s ear. Her head lifted and her gaze swung to me. Her hand rose in welcome. She patted Fergus’ arm and slipped across the room to where Cameron stood with Robert.

Laird Graham’s gaze lifted in my direction.

My breath caught.

Dark, shaggy hair hung to his broad shoulders with a single braid on either side of his face. Black stubble lined his cheeks and strong chin. The opening of his tan tunic revealed dark, curling chest hair, and the grey trews hugging his thighs disappeared inside his worn boots. A black and blue plaid draped his shoulder and rested under his leather belt.

Cameron was one lucky woman.

Heather grasped her sister’s hand and the two women weaved through the boisterous crowd, making their way over to the hearth.

“Mistress McFarland,” Heather said as she approached with Cameron close behind. “What a pleasure to see ye again.”

Once again, I was struck by the women’s beauty. Heather’s blonde tresses and deep blue eyes were in stark contrast to her sister’s long dark hair and green eyes. Friendly smiles lit their faces.

“Please call me Lane. I thank you for inviting me to your St. Valentine’s Day celebration.”

“Gracious, ye’re always welcome,” Cameron said, holding my hand. “Please have a seat.”

Rena entered again carrying a tray of sweet cakes. She smiled and placed the treats on a table between our chairs.

Forever watching my weight, my mouth watered in doubtful hope of even a small taste. “Thank you.”

The old woman nodded and shuffled through the crowd.

“We celebrate St. Valentine’s Day with sweets and messages of love.” I took another sip of wine. “Tell me about your first kiss with Robert, Cameron.”

A slight blush eased over Cameron’s cheeks and she glanced at Heather. The corners of her mouth tugged up. “I was stuck in a tree when I first met Robert. He helped me down and…” She paused as if considering her next words. “He wanted a reward for his help.”

Heather’s eyebrow rose. “And ye rewarded him with a kiss?”

Cameron squirmed in the chair. Her head tilted to the side with an impish smile pasted across her face. A shrill squeal interrupted them as a little lad with dark hair and green eyes flung himself onto Cameron.

“I’d say he got more than a kiss,” Heather teased.

We laughed as Douglas climbed onto his mother’s lap. Cameron kissed his plump, soft cheek and settled him in her lap as he sucked his thumb and snuggled into her chest.

“And ye, sister?” Cameron asked. “When was yer first kiss with Alec?”

“We shared our very first kiss years ago at Da’s tournament.”

“What?” Cameron straightened. “And ye didn’t tell me?”

“Even sisters don’t share everything.” She laughed.

“And at what point did you realize you loved him? I asked Heather.

Her teeth raked her bottom lip. “I think I fell in love with him the first day I saw him.”

I turned to Cameron. “And you? When did you realize you loved Robert?”

“Unlike my sister, I didn’t fall in love so easily.” She kissed the top of Douglas’ head. “Robert and I were at odds over our families’ feud. But I do remember the very day I knew he held my heart. He had escorted me to the northern loch to search for herbs to heal his sister, Isobel. After fighting my attraction to him, I realized it was futile.”

Smiling at the women and little Douglas, I felt the bond between them. St. Valentine’s Day simply provided a time to celebrate their love.

The hour grew late and I had miles to travel. “I thank you for your gracious invitation, but I must start home.”

“I hate for ye to leave,” Cameron said.

“I won’t be gone long. I’m writing Lindsey’s story and will be back to speak with her.”

Heather patted my hand. “We’ll look forward to that day.”

After placing my mug on the table between us, I stood and the three escorted me down the corridor to the great hall.

Fergus ambled toward us. “Ye are leaving already, Mistress McFarland?”

“Aye, it’s time for me to be home.” As I faced the group, I too realized how much I looked forward to the day I returned.

“Happy Valentine’s Day!”

Tell us a little about your next book.

Now that I’ve finished Cameron and Heather, I’m writing Lindsey’s story, the third in the daughter’s series. She is a real tomboy at heart, loves horses and as with her sisters, she is headstrong and independent. Dressed in lad’s clothing, she rebels at a world dominated by men and secretly delivers missives behind enemy lines to the Scottish warriors. Along the way, she falls in love with a Scottish warrior, Logan Ross.

I plan to release Lindsey’s story this summer, with Elsbeth’s book to soon follow.

Author Bio:

Lane McFarland is a southern girl living on top of a mountain in North Georgia, and is most happy when surrounded by family and friends. When not writing, you can find her hiking with her husband, or fiddling around in her flower and vegetable gardens, feeding the birds and watching black bears and deer. Lane is blessed to have a wonderful son—her pride and joy, her buddy who, along with her husband, have made her life complete.

Lane’s debut novels, CAMERON and HEATHER, are the first in The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall books. The historical romance series is set in the late thirteenth century Scotland. Each book tells a story of one of Laird MacDougall’s four daughters coming of age in a country fraught with war and feuds amongst rival clans. The Graham and the MacDougall clans were no exception as their disagreements fueled a life-long fight between them.

As compensation for his indiscretions, Laird Alastair MacDougall promised his wife he would grant his daughters the rare privilege to live their lives as they desired.

Devoting her life to the healing arts, Cameron rebels against her father’s feuding ways. Laird Robert Graham, determined to band Scots together against English tyranny, seals a truce with her father. But after Laird MacDougall breaks that truce in a treacherous attack on Robert’s young brother, Robert kidnaps Cameron in an act of revenge. She expects the anger she feels, but not the simmering attraction to the powerful warrior, or the love she develops for his clan.

The second book tells Heather’s story. On her mother’s death bed, Heather promised she would help her senile father manage the clan. In her quest to keep her clan intact and hold off those who plot to overtake her father’s land, she secretly leads warriors on missions for the rebellion. She fights to keep her secrets safe, while resisting the lure of Laird Alec Campbell, the handsome young laird who challenges her defenses.

Bent on overcoming the belief he’s failed his aging father, Alec concentrates on proving his worth to his people. He provides for them and leads men into battle, vowing never again to disappoint his clan or lose his heart.
