EXCERPT
“From her squeaky voice, I take it Lindy hasn’t accepted her new role in life?” Amusement and sympathy lit Keely’s eyes.

“Neither of them, in fact.”

“I’m struggling with being a dragon, but I’ve got being an elf down,” Lindy huffed.

Alex turned amused eyes on Keely. “This is Lindy Veles, my dragon and my mate. She’s in denial.”

Mate? Her mind jammed into neutral. Lindy choked on the tea she just sipped. Alex bolted upright and tapped her back until she coughed the liquid out of her lungs. “Mate?” she choked out. This was way too soon.

He scooped her up and settled her on his lap. And therefore sheltered and protected her within his warmth. “Mate.”

No way. This was not possible.

Hugh leaned forward and sniffed in the freaky way shifters do. “Mates for sure.”

“You can smell it?” Ewain’s eyes were as wide as hers.

Blurb
Peace has reigned for so long, most beings believe dragons are mere myths, including elf professor Dr. Lindy Veles. After meeting attractive Dr. Alex von Schreider—a surly professor from a bear shifter family who possesses plenty of paranormal power, yet can't shift—things start to spiral downward. Especially when he catches Lindy's strong shifter scent. Elves don’t normally shift. Alex finds the compelling elf’s denials suspicious. Lindy thinks he’s crazy to believe she’s a shifter.

As they delve into the ancient Dragon Chronicles, tomes about dragons, it quickly becomes clear their efforts are no mere academic exercise. Dragons are suddenly becoming all too real. When Lindy shifts into one, Alex discovers he’s meant to control her dragon—the most powerful creature on earth. The pair is caught in the middle of two raging battles . . . their own personal emotional war and the war to save their world.

With the clock ticking, Lindy and Alex must surrender their misconceptions about themselves and dragons, and unite to begin the fight for their very existence.

Hook
A carefree elf and a surly bear non-shifter have to unite to save the world. Too bad no one believes in dragons, until she turns into one under dire circumstances.

BLURB
‘Hank’ Jerry - she’s a tough talking twentieth century broad looking for a way to reclaim her writing career.

Jack ‘Gent’ Darcy -he’s a strange blend of gentleman and hood fresh out of prison with a story to tell that could get them both killed.

Forced to return to the small town she left behind because of her aunt’s health, ‘Hank’ will do her own time minding her aunt’s restaurant, then it’s back to the city to do damage control for her career. When Jack lands on her doorstep, injured and on the run from gang enforcers out for blood and hot on his tail, she makes the split second decision to offer him refuge.

As soon as the coast is clear, she has every intention of sending him on his way, but he makes her an offer she can’t refuse. Not only will he fill the open position of cook, he offers her the exclusive of a lifetime: his no holds barred story as war counselor inside national super gang, the Creds. She’ll shoot straight to the top, and he’ll bury the gang, then disappear—a win-win.

But they’ve both got something to hide, and falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan. With time running out and gang enforcers closing in, can the trust they’ve forged survive the ultimate test?

Find out in A Mighty Good Man...3 Days. 2 People. 1 Story.

CHAPTER 1 EXCERPT

Zip. Zilch. Null. Nada. Void. The empty set.

No text. No email. No electronic communiqué of any kind.

Scowling, ‘Hank’ Jerry—a woman who wore the self-made moniker the way some might armor—jammed her smartphone into the front pocket of her cargo pants and sucked a drag off her first cancer stick of the day, exhaling into the predawn behind her Aunt Henry’s restaurant. The fluorescents overhead cast a harsh glow over this particular piece of real estate in Fiddler’s Elbow, Pennsylvania—a throwback hunky mill town where dial-up was considered high tech and people still lived life one pierogie at a time.

From the shadows behind the dumpster, a man emerged and limped toward her, clutching his side, his chest heaving, clouds of his breath hanging in the April air.

“Hide me!” he gasped.

“What the hell?” Heart pounding, Hank retreated a few steps and threw her cigarette to the ground. Blood, bruises, panic—all of it oozed from this man who’d materialized like smoke. Tires squealed on pavement in the alley running the length of the restaurant and hodge-podge of neighboring buildings.

“Will you?” he ground out.

A dozen fleeting impressions swamped her brain. Muscular. Dirty. Unshaven. Murderer? Crazy? Eyes, wild and green, probing and pleading in the artificial light. In the alley, car doors slammed. Feet pounded gravel and shouts cut through the dark. Two people? More?

“Please.”

They locked eyes. No, said her gut. Not crazy. But maybe she was.

AUTHOR BIO
Rebecca E. Blurb for blog post:
Tough, driven Kit Kendall has replaced her frills and dresses with no nonsense haircuts and wranglers, years ago. As owner of Sage Brush, the once thriving west Texas bed and breakfast ranch, she now struggles daily to keep her business afloat. Since McCabe Resort Lodge reopened next door as a multi-million dollar hotel, her financial difficulties compound, as she suffers one cancellation after another.

Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse, Kit’s childhood sweetheart turned nemesis returns as the new owner of the resort that’s now putting her out of business, resurrecting memories she thought she’d buried long ago.

Cowboy, entrepreneur Sam Dawson has returned to Sugar Creek, Texas after six years of exile with a secret that could destroy Kit’s happiness. He left town because of it and for the past two years has secretly tried to make it right. Having failed, he now returns to make one last attempt to undo the tangled web created by his father.

Set in motion by his father’s Last Will and Testament and with the clock ticking, Sam has only weeks to convince Kit to sell him her ranch or reveal the truth that will break her heart.

Short hook for Twitter and Facebook:
Kit doesn’t need a man. Until Sam returns to town sabotaging that idea. http://amzn.to/1cZNaKL Rogue’s Son @darcyflynn #romcom #western
Name one thing you love about Spring and a short reason why:
I love seeing new life sprouting up all around me, not only in my gardens, but with the return of my mallard hen. She returns each spring with her drake to lay her eggs. As much as I try to find her nest, she keeps it well hidden. But the morning she appears with their ducklings is a joyful moment for me.
Souls Entwined is Anne B. Cole’s debut release combining sweet romantic
suspense, time travel, and paranormal elements in a novel attractive to a wide
range of readers. In addition to
writing, Anne teaches preschool and is raising three very active teenagers with
her husband of twenty-two years. <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">With
an Education degree from Penn State University, Anne began her teaching in
elementary schools. A move to Indiana and becoming a mom of three kids in three
and a half years sparked her interest in teaching preschool where she has been
for the last eleven years. Anne began writing
in 2010 when she realized she didn't have a book to read during her kids’ swim
meet. With over ten hours of sitting in the stands, she decided to make the
best of it and flipped over the heat sheet. Ideas for a book were jotted down
and the outline of Souls Entwined was
born. Anne's writing hobby turned into an addiction! The
Souls Trilogy continues July 2015 with Souls
Estranged. Anne is currently writing the final book in the trilogy, Souls Endure with a tentative release
date of 2016.

It gives them some much needed/highly sought after security. But who was this old lady who’d left them so much? Leath struggles with guilt when discovering their benefactor had spent her last years in a nursing home.

Kirk Buchanan had left the family farm years ago to make his fortune. Summoned home he’s devastated to find his father suffering from Alzheimers. Hearing his dad likes to visit his childhood home, Kirk resolves to buy the place to ensure his safety. It’s not much but he has to do something.

Unfortunately the property has new owners who keep refusing his generous offers. He must have his father’s birthplace. Obviously a more personal approach is called for.

BIO

Anne Ashby grew up in a very small coastal town in Southland, New Zealand. An eagerness to travel, fostered by her mother, led her to join the Royal NZ Navy where she enjoyed a very satisfying career. She has travelled extensively and lived in Singapore and Maryland USA. Anne likes to bring something of her beautiful country to romance readers everywhere by using New Zealand as the setting for most of her clean/sweet contemporary stories. If not set in NZ, Anne has kiwi characters filling her books. Anne has a keen interest in genealogy, an obsession for rugby and a definite dislike of housework. When not reading or writing, Anne finds plenty to occupy her time with her family commitments and her role as the National President of the Royal NZ Navalwomen's Association. She currently lives in Auckland with her husband and one of their four children. She's blessed to have four grandchildren living close by.

Buy Links For Leath's Legacy
The Wild Rose Press:

http://www.wildrosepublishing.com/maincatalog_v151/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=679

http://www.amazon.com/Leaths-Legacy-Anne-Ashby-ebook/dp/B00PKY35JO
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/leaths-legacy-anne-ashby/1120900345?ean=2940150050327

Where to find Anne
www.anneashby.com

www.facebook.com/AuthorAnneAshby

www.twitter.com/AuthorAnneAshby

When Nick reluctantly accepts the temporary transfer to the Scenic View Fire Department he doesn’t plan on playing Santa Claus for the kiddie Christmas party. Sticking around town for the special assignment will give him a chance to get to know lonely, local sweetheart Lily and find out why she wants nothing to do with him. Lily is a lifelong fixture in Scenic View, sick of living hand-to-mouth in a place where everyone’s nose is in her personal business. Just when she’s ready to move out of town, she meets the gorgeous newcomer, and it’s lust at first sight. The only thing is she doesn’t date firemen, which is too bad, because charming Nick seems like a real keeper. With a little Christmas magic and help from the Santa suit, will Nick find a way into Lily’s heart and change her mind?
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">Rafe Blautsauger,
vampire and enforcer, must put his feelings for the mortal Morgan Maguire
aside. The Nosferatu council who employs Rafe strictly forbids their love. But
he can't stay away from the beautiful woman who causes his blood to beat with
new life. Yet, she hides a secret, one he must expose in order to protect her.

Morgan keeps her unique gift of magic under wraps due to a spell gone horribly
wrong when she was young. She is haunted by a nightmare where two
malevolent glowing red eyes stalk her. Can she trust the arrogant but
oh-so-handsome Rafe with her secret as well as her heart? Can he help her
regain her power in time to save the world of the living and the undead?

Morgan
quickly lunged forward, and pressed
the stake firmly over his heart. “You are despicable.”

“Necessary. Especially for someone as puny as you.” With ease Rafe
flipped the piece of sharpened wood out of her fingers, twirled it around a
couple of times, and then handed it back with a small flourish.

This time reprisal came more quickly as a spell came to her. She hoped
that one day it would come automatically. “Let this man feel my slap. Not to
harm, just a tap. Let him feel a touch of fear, to know he cannot domineer.”

For a second
the words hung in the air and then Rafe’s eyes widened as his head jerked to
the side. The faint lines of a palm print reddened his left cheek.

“You little
devil,” he rubbed the side of his face before pushing her on the shoulder with
the flat of his hand. He shoved hard enough to force her back a step. “If
you’re going to slap at me, by god, you better have the balls to come at me
personally.”

“Oh, yeah?”
Morgan thrust both hands against his chest and shoved with all her might. It
shook her when he didn’t budge an inch, but she managed to keep up her air of
bravado. “What’s the matter? Don’t you like the fact I’m not weak and
powerless?” Tossing back her head, she challenged, “I don’t need magic to take
you on, but it would be wise for you to remember it’s always there.”

Blurb-
Two things have helped Nicole cope since the murder of her husband. One is running her detective agency, and the other is her guardian angel Mira. When Mira is killed by a demon, Nicole accepts the help of a Ridge, a long haired, cigar smoking diamond in the rough with wings. Things go from bad to worse when a replacement guardian cannot be found. She has to trust Ridge, which is tricky when she realizes there are no demons or angels, just parasitic aliens that humans have built the myths of these celestial beings around. Ridge isn’t an angel or a devil, but an alien half breed known as a Midworlder. He is also way too sexy for his own good, or is it her own good.

Walking Through Fire: Blurb
Simon MacKay, the last Earl of Cleitmuir, was murdered two hundred years ago because of his family’s dangerous legacy. Alone and cursed he haunts his home in order to protect the lost treasure. A pastime that leaves him angry and embittered until he meets a feisty American tourist. Not only is Laurel sexy and beautiful, she can also see him in his ghostly form.

Antiquities expert, Laurel Saville, leaves Chicago to visit her best friend in the romantic Scottish Highlands. She is saved from a tragic fall by the ghostly Simon. Once she realizes she is not crazy, she pledges to help him find his family’s missing artifact. A pledge hindered by treasure hunter Alex MacKenzie, a descendant of the clan that murdered Simon.

Laurel risks everything, including her life, to help Simon resolve the issues keeping him earth bound. But will she lose him forever or is there a way Laurel can keep him with her on this earthly plane?

Walking Through Fire: Excerpt
“Well, lass. That was about the stupidest thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

Laurel jerked upwards at the low angry brogue. Stupid? She’d fallen off a horse, for crying out loud. It happens.

She peered into the dense fog trying to get a glimpse of the disembodied Scot. The thick mist swirled, thinned, and parted to reveal a pair of well- worn, brown riding boots with red cuffs at the top. Her eyes climbed higher, following the boots to a pair of large muscular thighs encased in dark-colored breeches. Her eyes continued upward, past the flat stomach, which led to a broad chest and shoulders covered in a mostly unbuttoned white shirt.

She craned her neck and finally saw his face. Roughly chiseled, he had a square jaw with high cheekbones, a slightly off-centered nose, and full lips pursed into a frown. She forced herself to meet his eyes, and her jaw dropped. The light gray eyes were almost opalescent against his dark lashes and black shoulder- length hair—eyes that pierced right thorough her.

“Every bloody year the tourists just get dumber,” he declared.

She clamped her mouth shut on a sharp retort and shook her head. “Gee, thanks for your concern. It’s not like I planned to fall off.” She started to push off the ground, but her right arm collapsed under her. Before she could fall back, the man reached her side and grabbed her good arm, pulling her to her feet.

The Heart of the Phoenix

Some call him a ruthless mercenary; she calls him the knight of her heart.

Memories Lady Evelynn’s childhood hero is home—bitter, hard, tempting as sin. And haunted by secrets. A now-grown Evie offers friendship, but Sir Stephen's cruel rejection crushes her, and she resolves to forget him. Yet when an unexpected war throws them together, she finds love isn’t so easy to dismiss. If only the king hadn’t betrothed her to another.

Can be cruel Sir Stephen lives a double life while he seeks the treacherous outlaws who murdered his friends. Driven by revenge, he thinks his heart is closed to love. His childhood shadow, Lady Evie, unexpectedly challenges that belief. He rebuffs her, but he can’t forget her, although he knows she’s to wed the king’s favorite.

And deadly When his drive for vengeance leads to Evie’s kidnapping, Stephen must choose between retribution and the love he’s denied too long. Surely King John will see reason.Convict the murderers; convince the king. Simple. Velda Brotherton writes of romance in the old west with an authenticity that makes her many historical characters ring true. A knowledge of the rich history of our country comes through in both her fiction and nonfiction books, as well as in her writing workshops and speaking engagements. She just as easily steps out of the past into contemporary settings to create novels about women with the ability to conquer life’s difficult challenges. Tough heroines, strong and gentle heroes, villains to die for, all live in the pages of her novels and books. Her writing lives up to her brand: Sexy, Dark, and Gritty.

She lives with her husband and writes from their home in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Her career spans nearly thirty years with close to that many books to her credit.

A talk about research-
Researching for this book, the second in The Victorian series, has been fun and somewhat surprising. I learned that a small sleepy town in Kansas was once the home of a large group of English/Scottish settlers who refused to embrace the western life, but rather brought their English life with them. From farm animals to lace for the tables, these people were determined not to leave their heritage behind.

I was raised in Kansas, but never knew the history of Victoria, Kansas until I visited my brother one summer. It so intrigued me that I knew I had to write not one, but three novels set there.

October, 1872 George Grant traveled by the Kansas Pacific railroad to Hays City. He was 50, with a vigorous six-foot frame, and carried himself with the grace and dignity of a king. He came to buy a large tract of land and form a colony of Englishmen. England was overcrowded. Worthy men could not make a living and young men had little future. He would name the colony for the queen, the Victoria Colony.

Wild Bill Hickok was marshal of nearby Hays City and enforced the Colt law. He shot up a bunch of soldiers from the Seventh Cavalry and was run out of town. Buffalo Bill Cody killed buffalo and peddled the meat from door to door in Hays City. Calamity Jane came from the east and could swear, shoot and hold her liquor with the best of them. She was genial and immoral and well liked, starting trouble wherever she went. Shootings were so regular it was like one long fourth of July. Hays City was one wild place.

Trains ran irregularly and rarely at night for fear of Indian Attack. Beyond Hays City the prairies stretched smoothly as far as they could see. In the far distance the blue sky kissed their purple edges. Antelope and buffalo grazed on the short green grass. Tall crimson grasses waved along the creek banks and sunflowers grew along the RR tracks. .

Permanent residences in the new settlement were all to be of stone, the frame buildings being turned over to the hired help. There would be free schools, a church, a library and special train rates. He would keep a herd of high-blooded stock, cattle, horses and sheep, a supply of pure seeds, steam cultivators such as were in use in England. None of these things were available to homesteaders.

On April Fool’s day 30 English and Scottish began their journey to America and the prairies of Kansas aboard a steamship leaving Scotland to begin a trip that would take a year by ship, rail, boat, and often horse-drawn stages. Many came with the assurance that allowances varying from 50 to 200 dollars a month would be sent to them regularly. They were called remittance men and were, for the most part, unmarried and in their early twenties.

On May 17, 1873 Mr. Grant and his first colony arrived at Victoria. In the group were 38 men, women and children and several head of Black and Red Aberdeen Angus Bulls, some sheep, and supplies needed upon their arrival. The Bulls were later placed on his own ranch and used to cross breed the long horn cattle from the area. Victoria became the birth place of Aberdeen Breed in America. The settlement grew and flourished for ten years. A nearby German settlement finally took over as the English moved out. No stone castle remain. Today the site is the home of St. Fidelis Church.

Links:

Website: http://www.veldabrotherton.com

Blog: http://www.veldabrotherton.wordpress.com

Buy Link: http://tinyurl.com/mzkbqru

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/authorveldabrotherton

A blinding red-white, red-white strobe, reflected in my brand new Wrangler’s rearview mirror, seized my attention. The police. I tossed my hands skyward, ready to surrender. I shouldn’t have been too surprised. Like I'd commented this a.m. to my roommate, Jenny, “Today, anything’s possible.”

My Bad Day checklist included:

- Crappy job interview, one which might have provided desperately needed income.

- Wore gut-busting panty hose on a hot day which had now worked past my waist and strangled my diaphragm.

- A barely blowing air conditioner indicated something had malfunctioned in my new, fun car.

I stole another glance in the mirror, and with great reluctance, flipped the right turn indicator. My vehicle coasted to a stop on the shoulder of Boston Avenue in my hometown of Sommerville, a nice suburb located between two large cities. Four lanes of cars and trucks zipped by as I sat there where every single one of my family, friends, friends’ friends, and their friends—including Rat Fink Suzanne—would see a police vehicle positioned right behind mine. Gleefully, drivers would chant the “Ha-ha, got you, not me” ditty.

How embarrassing.

After killing the engine, I flopped back in the seat. Shooting the morons the finger was an idea. Nah. I'm too exhausted to care.

A litany of: "No, not hiring." "Just filled the position." "You're over qualified." "You're under qualified…" tornadoed through my head. Coupled with the intense job search through various outlets like the internet and completing numerous online employment applications, no wonder my body had been depleted of all life force.

Not even a breeze blew to take the edge off the unbearable summertime heat. Tangled wild trees and dry scrubby bushes banked the roadside. The grass had taken on a scorched look. Rolling down the driver’s window, I surveyed my surroundings. Nothing great. Nothing new.

I stole a glance in the side mirror at the policeman who strode purposefully along the shoulder. The gravel crunched under his boots. He looked huge, probably because his uniform, which appeared to be bulked with a bullet-proof vest, made him resemble a buffed-up superhero in size. Exceedingly intimidating.

Sigh. When things went wrong, they were really wrong.

1 creep. 2 bodyguards. 3 men who change Molly’s life forever.

Guitar player Molly Davis is taunted with disturbing gifts by some creep she hopes like heck is a harmless, misguided fan. The owner of the bar where her band plays isn’t taking any chances, however, and hires Gabe Cooper and Caleb “Ram” Ramsey to stand guard over Molly and the rest of the band.

Cooper is all business and doesn’t mess with Molly’s emotions. She can handle that. Ram is a different story. He’s gorgeous, has a good heart, and is sometimes infuriating. He doesn’t take Molly’s crap, giving him the potential to be the first man to shove his way through her stubbornness and into her life.

But a violent attack proves the creep isn’t going away. And that almost wrecks everything.
Not until Penelope (Penny) Jones comes into his life does he know the value of a woman.

Anger at Clayton, her new boss, causes Penny to snap out of the lethargy she’s experienced after seeing her husband killed. She shows Clayton she’s no lightweight in the world of business. But his life style and the women in his life threaten to defeat her. Penny falls in love with him, but will not become one of his women—not on his terms.

On her terms, they marry only to be parted by federal agents. The ensuing intrigue, danger, and antics of Clayton’s ex-wife and her cohorts put Penny in eminent peril. Obstacles mount up that seem insurmountable. He can’t ignore his need to see her again, even knowing she must be a hated Macrory.

Gilda Macrory trespasses Macraig land, but haunting memories of the young man she once met there draw her to the forbidden place. Learning he is Laird Macraig’s son threatens her dreams, for her father would never agree to a marriage between his daughter and their enemy’s son.

With pirates raiding the coast, bad blood between the Macraig and Macrory clans could cost Ryan and Gilda their love—and their lives.

Excerpt:

He gentled his voice. “Still afraid of the storm?”

She shook her head. “Nae. He beckoned to her as he unwrapped the woolen fabric.

“Come sit with me, lass. I will keep ye warm.”

She did not move and he quirked an eyebrow at her hesitation. “I willnae harm ye. But ye dinnae need to stand about dripping wet and cold.” He tried a lopsided grin. “I only bite impertinent lasses.”

She almost smiled, but her lips trembled. “Then, sir, I am forewarned, for I fear I am nearly always impertinent.”

He laughed. “My name is ‘Ryan,’ not ‘sir.’”[C1]

The girl bit her lip and did not reply.

He sighed. “Saying it willnae make ye impertinent.”

“Ryan.”

His name rolled sweetly from her lips, sending a frisson through his veins. He blinked. She was too young. A mere lass. Teasing her was only a way to keep her from being afraid. He gave a reassuring nod. “There. That wasnae so hard. Now ye can sit with me and be warm.”

Still hesitant, she lowered herself to the cave’s dust-covered floor. He tucked the end of his plaide around her shoulders and pulled it down her side to hold in the heat. They sat quietly, listening to the wind rage outside. Ryan carefully controlled the unexpected storm quivering through his insides at her nearness.

The girl moved slightly. “My name is Gilda.”

* * *

CathyMacRaeAuthor.com

Facebook

Amazon buy link

Amazon Author Page

Twitter

Author bio:

Cathy enjoys weaving tales of romance in the Highland mists.
