Romance Countdown To 2012

We all love December. The snow, the cheer, the music, the decorations, the food, gathering with the ones we love, and let's not forget selebrating Jesus's birth!

No matter what your is for loving December, you know you have to admit that the closer Christmas gets, the more excited you become. The kid in us never really leaves, we just have more practice at hiding the excitement... LOL!

Let me tell you how YOU can have Christmas EVERY day for the month of December. That's right..... every day!!!

See that little yellow box over in the left hand column titled "Romance Countdown To 2012"? Click on that box and it will take you to Marilyn Wigglesworth's blog, Jaguar Warriors, and there she is hosting this event.

Here's how it works:

Every day of the month, Marilyn will have a post from a different author. Read the post and then leave a comment and your email address. It's that simple!!!!

Here is a great way to learn about new authors and find some great books. But books aren't the only thing you could win. You will have to stop by everyday to see what prizes are being offered and if you enter more than one day, you can be entered to win the BIG basket of goodies. And remember, somedays have more than one aithor listed so that's TWO ways to win.

This isn't just about winning the prises though. We really do hope you will enjoy reading  these posts and hopefully find a new author to read!!!!!

SO- don't forget!!!  Contest starts Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 31.   You must leave a comment, a name and an email address to be eligible. Enter more than one day to be eligible for the BIG basket of goodies so you will have to come back more that one day.

WRITING CONTEST

2011 Celtic Hearts Romance Writers' Contest
NOVELLAS NEED LOVE, TOO!

PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED authors are welcome

**CONTEST DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1, 2011**

RULES, ENTRIES, and ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility

The "Novellas Need Love, Too" contest is open to both published and unpublished authors. For the purposes of this contest, "Published" means either an RWA member or non-member who has accepted or initiated a publishing contract from any kind of publisher for fiction in the past five years of 12,000 words or more. "Unpublished" means either an RWA member or non-member who is unpublished in novella (12K or above) or novel (40K and above) length fiction and who has not accepted or initiated a contract with any kind of publisher for fiction in the past three years. This includes self-published works of fiction. If upon entry, you are "unpublished" but receive a contract (for other than the entered manuscript) before the entry deadline, you must notify the contest coordinator and we will give you the option of switching to the "published" category, or withdrawing from the contest.

Entries

Entry must be a novella, whose completed word count falls between the range of 12-40K words. Manuscripts must be completed by the final deadline so they may be submitted to the final judge if requested (November 1st). If a final judge asks for a full, you'll want to be able to send it out immediately. Entrant must retain all rights to the entry and not have granted any of them to a publisher or any other party by the contest entry deadline. If your entered manuscript is accepted for publication during the time of our contest (before October 1st) you must notify the contest coordinator; your submission(s) will be withdrawn from consideration and your entry fee(s) returned.

For "published" authors, the entirety of the entered manuscript must be uncontracted and unpublished, including (but not limited to) the concept and characters, the plot and storyline, and the written manuscript itself. It may be part of a series if
(1) the rest of the series is uncontracted and
(2) you are not under contract for subsequent series books with a publisher (vanity/subsidy or otherwise).

Please Note:
  • You may submit multiple entries so long as you pay an entry fee and submit a completed entry form for each submission.
  • Entries must be ROMANCE. Your synopsis will be reviewed upon entry and if a romance relationship is not obvious, your entry may be remitted to you and your contest fee returned.
  • You may not enter the same manuscript in more than one category.
Entries are 5 pages maximum with a complete synopsis no longer than 3 pages (double-spaced), for a total of 8 pages maximum.
All entries are electronic. Entries must be the FIRST five pages of a novella and may not be from any location other than the beginning (so, if you have a prologue, you must begin with the prologue, and not with Chapter One, although you may include any part of Chapter One that falls within the first five pages). Remember that you're turning in a complete entry, so please don't end in the middle of a sentence.

How To Enter

Entries should be submitted to the appropriate category coordinator. (See Below)

Contemporary, Historical, Erotic, and Paranormal categories are for UNPUBLISHED authors. All PUBLISHED authors should enter the Published category, regardless of the category of the manuscript. Judges for the published category will be asked to be familiar with all potential categories.

Categories
Paranormal: Romance novella where the mains focus is on the romantic relationship, but the future, fantasy or paranormal elements are integral to the story (includes time-travel).
Contemporary: Romance novella with a contemporary setting set after 1945. Main focus is the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine.
Historical: Romance novella set primarily before 1945 -- any location. Main focus must be on the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine.
Erotic Romance: Any genre or time period, erotic romance submission only - no straight erotica - this means there must be a HEA ending or at least a Happy For Now.
Published: Romance novella of any category, where the author has been published in fiction over 12K in the last three years. May be any type of novella and have any heat level.

DISTINGUISHED NOVELLA AWARD –
Each judging form will contain a unique category where judges will rate their enjoyment of each novella (both manuscript pages and synopsis) in comparison to every novella they've ever read. The top five scores (regardless of genre or author) in this category will be forwarded to the Distinguished Novella Award final judge. This judge will pick one winner from among those five, who will receive a certificate and a cash prize (of $50).

GOOD READS!

I try to bring to you books that I have read and really enjoy. Now, anyone who knows me will tell you that my favorite thing to read is paranormal romance with sexy Scottish Highlanders. I love time travel, but it doesn't have to be paranormal, just a good romance is fine with me.

Well, the author I am going to talk about today gives you a little bit of everything and a whole LOT of sexy Highlanders.

Let me introduce to you, MONICA MCCARTY!

There are three series she has written and I have read them all. The first is The MacLeods of Skye Trilogy. You have Highlander Untamed, Highlander Unmasked, and Highlander Unchained.

Then you have The Campbell Trilogy.   In this trilogy you have, Highland Warrior, Highland Outlaw, and Highland Scoundrel.

Last but not least, there is The Highland Guard Series. So far she has written The Chief, The Hawk, and The Ranger and she is currently working on The Viper.

If you would like to learn more about these book, please go to www.monicamccarty.com and look in the "special features" section. There is everything you need to know right there. Even a family genealogy line and excerpts that didn't make it into the books, picture books, etc.

I encourage you to look through the pages on her blog. I promise you, that you won't be disappointed when you read one of her books. I'm sure you will be hooked. Monica is one of my favorite authors.

NOW- a treat for you! If you go to her web site and look through "The Highland Guard Series," I want you to come back here and leave a comment about something you found on her web site having to due with those books. Those of you who do will be put in a drawing to win an autographed book of "THE RANGER."

Don't delay. This contest only lasts for today. A winner will be drawn first thing tomorrow morning and given to Monica. (Her busy schedule only allows me to have the contest for this period of time, sorry)

Good luck!

My romance story

15 years ago, on a chilly November day, I stood outside the church waiting to be escorted in to the man of my dreams. Light snow started to fall on my bare shoulders and I shivered. Winter is my favorite season, so I smiled to myself thinking how fitting it was that the first snow of the season would fall on one of the happiest days of my life.

Today is our anniversary and I can't express to you how much I have enjoyed these years or how lucky I feel to be married to my husband. We met at a country bar and I truly believe in love at first sight. Boy, could he dance and I just loved that about him. I told my cousin one night, "That's the man I want to marry." Low and behold, it came true.
Through the years we have had our ups and downs, three beautiful children, and lived in two towns. But through it all, we have had each other and that is the most important thing. The hardest part, as I look back now, is the time he spent as an over the road trucker. The kids were small and having him gone all the time was rough. But I would do it all again.
So I want to honor my husband, my knight in shining armour that makes everyone else look like boys in tin foil, by having a contest. There is a poem that Andy recites to me. Here it is:
If the ocean were made of ink and the sky were made of paper, I could not begin to write how much I love you!
I would like for you to tell me where the poem came from. Where have you heard and seen it before? (CLUE, not in a book that I know of!) If you can correctly tell me where he got the poem, then you could win a $20 gift card to Blockbuster. That way you can rent a movie, have a little popcorn and snuggle with the man you love. Just a romantic night for two!
Good luck!
Happy Anniversary Andy! I love you!

NaNoWriMo

The title looks funny doesn't it? I sat there too, the first time I saw it, and tried to pronounce it. It stands for National Novel Writing Month. November 1st is the offical start date and many a writers are gearing towards a fun filled month of writing. The goal is to write a 175- page, (50,000 word) novel by midnight Nov. 30.

Since everyone who is participating has a limited time to write, it's all about quantity, not quality. No worries about grammar, spelling, orwhether or not he is wearing a the same blur shirt from the second paragraph to the fourth. It's a fly by the seat of your pants approach. Leave the editing for later.

The nice things is that there are writers all over the world doing the same thing. You can buddy other writers and form a support group.

In 2009, NaNoWriMo had over 165,000 writers, with over 30,000 of them reaching the goal and crossing the finish line entering into the Nationals of NaNoWriMo. Every writer will log in each day and write. At midnight on Nov 30, a writer will submit their work and a team of web-based robotic word counters will begin their job.

I want to wish "GOOD LUCK" to all of those who are participating. I have chosen not to this year. I need to finish book 2 in my Macpherson Saga and my novella. It's only fair that they come first.
If you would like to participate, then go to www.nanowrimo.org and sign up.

Good luck!

Where's Rebecca?

Ever play the game, Where's Waldo? Well, I want to know "Where's Rebecca?"

I received in the mail a book. It is Veronica Wolff's, "Lord of the Highlands" and it is signed by Veronica herself but it was autographed to a Rebecca. I called the lady who sent it to me and we squared away the confusion. This still left me with the book.

I already have my own autographed copy of this book from Veronica, so I wondered what could I do with this extra book? Veronica suggested I have a "Where's Rebecca?" contest. So here we are.

If you know of anyone who is named Rebecca or you are named Rebecca, please leave me a comment. Who ever can guess my middle name will win. I will let this run for a few days and at the end of Thursday, I will pick a winner.

So, go out there and tell your friends. Help me find Rebecca!
